MCF5 is a magnetic field shieldingShielding is the protection from the effects of external fault zones and environmental influences (on a person's health most of the time). More foil, made from an amorphous cobalt alloy. It is ideal for shielding low-frequency magnetic alternating fields, electric alternating fields (LF), and high-frequency electromagnetic fields (HF). Since MCF5 is only 5 cm wide, it is perfectly suited for shielding smaller areas, such as in electronic devices or for cables.
No shielding of static magnetic fields possible with MCF5!
In contrast to the MCF5 shielding foil, classic MUMETALL® can shield static magnetic fields, although this effect is quite minimal with the usual foils of 0.1 mm thickness. The alloy of the MCF5 shielding foil is based on cobalt and offers better protection the more the magnetic fields are eddied. As static or permanent magnetic fields do not have any eddies, they cannot be shielded with this MCF5 shielding foil.
Compelling features of MCF5 shielding foil
MCF5 has numerous advantages compared to MUMETALL®: MUMETALL® is soft but also sensitive, and its shielding effect can quickly be lost through bending, shocks, and during processing.
In contrast, MCF5 remains flexible yet sturdy even at small bending radii. The shielding attenuation is maintained even under high mechanical stress. Furthermore, MCF5 can easily be cut with scissors.

Processing of MCF5 shielding foil
WARNING: The edges and cut surfaces are as sharp as knives!
Even if a self-adhesive version is not currently available, it is still easy to bond. We recommend the use of:
- double-sided carpet tape with 50 mm
- double-sided adhesive tape on larger rolls
- common surface adhesive (e.g., UHU, PATTEX)
It is best to use an adhesive squeegee like our FVR10 to press the foil onto the adhesive tape or glue (thereby actively protecting against cut injuries).
Grounding of MCF5 shielding foil
Due to its conductive surface, it can be easily contacted and thus grounded for the shielding of low-frequency electric alternating fields (LF).
Shielding performance of MCF5 shielding foil
The shielding attenuation is regularly measured in the laboratory, HF according to ASTM D4935-10, LF magnetic field according to ASTM A698/A698M-07.
